Trump's "Peace Council" divided the world: what will be the new format of US global influence - Rezazade
The initiative announced by US President Donald Trump to create the so-called "Board of Peace" has already caused a controversial reaction among world leaders and has actually divided the international community into several camps.
The leaders of key states have received an invitation to join the new format, but their responses range from immediate support to cautious and expectant statements.
According to American media, some countries immediately demonstrated their readiness to join the Council, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen their own influence in global processes. At the same time, other leaders have publicly stated that they need time to study the details of the initiative, since the format, powers and real mechanisms of the Council's work remain unclear.
International expert and first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, believes that the creation of the Peace Council is an attempt by Donald Trump to reformat the system of global diplomacy under American leadership.
“It is not so much about peace as such, but about a new architecture of influence. Trump offers an alternative to traditional international institutions — the UN, the OSCE, or even NATO — where the United States acts not just as a participant, but as the central moderator of the processes,” Rezazadeh notes.
In his opinion, the ambiguous reaction of world leaders is quite predictable. “For some, this is a chance to be closer to Washington and receive additional political dividends. For others, it is a risk of losing subjectivity and finding themselves in a structure where the rules are determined by one state,” the expert explains.
Rezazade also draws attention to the psychological effect of the initiative itself. “By the very fact of its existence, the Peace Council already serves as a geopolitical test: it shows who is ready to play by American rules and who is trying to maintain a strategic distance,” he emphasizes.
According to the expert, the key question remains the real content of the project. “If the Peace Council is only a political club without clear obligations, it will quickly turn into a symbolic instrument. But if it is backed by economic, military and sanction mechanisms, this could be the beginning of a new model of global governance,” Ali Reza Rezazade summarizes.
