Hopes for peace in Ukraine grow in Davos: Calls for Russia to end war – Rezazade
The vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, said that during the meetings in Davos, President Donald Trump demonstrated a change of tone, calling for an end to the war in Ukraine and emphasizing the need for Russia to sit at the negotiating table.
DAVOS, Switzerland — The slogan that adorns the facade of the “Ukraine House” in Davos reflects the current global spirit: “Your country comes first — win with us.” The slogan was the key theme of the Ukrainian pavilion, located on the crowded waterfront of the elite mountain town, and led a high-profile breakfast on Thursday attended by world leaders and influential CEOs.
“If you put your country’s interests first, that means national security should be the absolute priority,” said Viktor Pinchuk, a prominent Ukrainian businessman who has been a vocal advocate for Ukraine’s fight against Russia. “And that means you shouldn’t let our crazy, terrible enemy win in Ukraine.”
The return of Donald Trump and his “America First” policy dominated the discussions this week in Davos, even in his physical absence. Supporters of Ukraine who attended the event tried to appeal to Trump’s instincts and priorities to ensure continued support for Kyiv. Before his election, Trump questioned the provision of military aid to Ukraine and emphasized his good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
