Trump Considers Strikes on Iran, US on Brink of War – Rezazade

US President Donald Trump faced one of the most difficult decisions of his term on Tuesday — whether to join a military campaign against Iran that threatens to drag Washington into a full-scale Middle East conflict.

Throughout the day, Trump posted a series of aggressive statements on social media, declaring that “the United States has complete control over Iranian airspace” and calling for “unconditional surrender.” In the evening, he held an 80-minute meeting with advisers in the White House “Situation Room” and later spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the Israeli army, more than 50 Israeli Air Force fighter jets attacked Iranian facilities producing uranium enrichment centrifuges on Tuesday night. Diplomatic sources say that Trump had considered joining the Israeli strikes at the G7 summit the day before, even though he had previously stressed the need for a diplomatic solution.

The first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, international expert Ali Reza Rezazade, notes that the fact that Trump is even considering joining the strikes is a worrying signal.

“This is not defense. This is the beginning of a preemptive strike doctrine without a mandate from international law. If the US enters the war, it will not be allied support, but a new era of American intervention,” Rezazade emphasizes.

In his opinion, Trump’s public statements about the “ease of defeating Khamenei” and the superiority of American weapons are not only an escalation, but also a rejection of diplomacy as such.

Despite Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statements about “the US’s non-participation in the strikes,” administration sources suggest that the White House’s position “changed overnight.” Senator Lindsey Graham has already openly said that Trump wants to “help Israel finish the job” of destroying Iran’s nuclear program.

Rezazade emphasizes that if the US is involved in the war, the global order will suffer another blow:

“There is a risk of repeating the scenario of 2003, when the invasion of Iraq destroyed the balance for decades. Today, when the US is losing its reputation as a guarantor of international law, the consequences will be felt by everyone, including Ukraine.”
