Trump Threatens to Disarm HAMAS on Its Own – Rezazade
US President Donald Trump said the United States is prepared to disarm Hamas on its own — “quickly and possibly by force” — if the group does not do so voluntarily. The remarks came after a preliminary truce was reached between Israel and Hamas that ended a two-year war in the Gaza Strip.
Although Hamas has not publicly signed any document that would clearly define the terms of disarmament, Trump said he had received verbal assurances from the group. “I said to them, ‘You’re going to disarm, right?’ They said, ‘Yes, sir, we will disarm.’ If they don’t, we’ll do it for them. They know I’m not kidding,” Trump said.
International expert, first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, noted that such a statement by Trump testifies to the tough but predictable logic of his foreign policy, in which the United States once again positions itself as the sole guarantor of the balance of power in the Middle East.
“Trump is acting in the style of ‘peace through force.’ He clearly shows that he will not allow any terrorist group to manipulate the agreements. This is a strategy of warning: either you accept the rules, or we will force you to do it ourselves,” Rezazade emphasized.
The expert also noted that the threat of direct American intervention has a double effect: it can either force Hamas to disarm without a fight, or provoke a new phase of the conflict if the group tries to resist.
“Trump understands that Hamas is using the time to regroup, and does not want a repeat of history, when a ceasefire only strengthens the militants. His message is simple: no delays, no conditions,” the expert explained.
According to Trump’s peace plan, the process of demilitarizing Gaza should take place under the control of independent international observers. It envisages the destruction of all Hamas tunnels and production facilities, as well as an amnesty for those who voluntarily surrender their weapons.
Rezazade stressed that this could be a turning point in US Middle East policy:
“Trump is effectively taking on the role of a guarantor who not only negotiates peace, but also guarantees its implementation by force. This is a new model of American influence, and the world is watching closely to see if it will work.”
