US Congress orders Justice Department to release "Epstein files" – Rezazade
The US Congress has passed a law requiring the Justice Department to release all unclassified materials related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The House of Representatives supported the document almost unanimously - 427 votes to 1, after which the Senate agreed to approve it without additional procedures.
President Donald Trump said he would sign the law.
The resistance, which lasted several months, was lifted after a sharp change in position by Trump, who had previously called the demands for the disclosure of files a "democratic hoax." The turning point came amid active pressure from victims and a cross-party coalition in Congress.
According to Ali Reza Rezazade, the first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, the Congressional decision goes beyond the boundaries of domestic political disputes:
"This is a precedent. The launch of the mechanism for forced disclosure of data demonstrates that political expediency can no longer override the public interest. For the Trump administration, this is a double challenge: transparency in the Epstein case and the risk of selective use of materials in political struggle,” the expert emphasizes.
He emphasizes that the risks lie not only in possible reputational blows to politicians of both parties, but also in how the Ministry of Justice will interpret the boundaries of “active investigations,” which formally allow for the non-disclosure of some files.
“The most important question is whether the Ministry of Justice will publish everything it has or try to maintain control over the narrative. It depends on this whether the law will become a step towards real transparency or a tool for political manipulation,” Rezazade adds.
The victims and their lawyers are not against this decision, emphasizing that the long-standing struggle for the right to know the truth is finally moving into a legally binding plane. Congress is already warning: selective disclosure of documents is unacceptable.
