Trump declared Ukraine’s readiness to regain its territories with NATO support – Rezazade

At the UN General Assembly, US President Donald Trump made a loud statement regarding the war in Ukraine, noting that Kyiv is capable of returning all its occupied territories with NATO support. 

He called Russia a “paper tiger” and emphasized the right of European countries to shoot down Russian planes in case of violation of the Alliance’s airspace.

These words became Trump’s most decisive position on Ukraine during his entire presidency. Only a month ago, he demonstrated his support for Vladimir Putin, and now he openly stated that Ukrainians can “fight and win.”

According to international expert, first vice president of the Iranian opposition in Washington, Ali Reza Rezazade, Trump’s change in tone has both political and strategic reasons.

“Trump is trying to balance the desire to maintain the image of a negotiator with Putin and the need to show a tough stance towards NATO allies. His statement is a signal to Europe: he is ready to support the Ukrainian victory, but emphasizes the resources and finances of European countries,” the expert emphasizes.

Rezazade notes that, despite the bold rhetoric, Trump’s statements do not necessarily mean a change in real US policy. “His words should be viewed in the context of domestic policy. This is more of a game for the American audience and allies than a strategic plan. After all, everyone understands: returning Ukraine to its pre-war borders is an extremely difficult task that requires not only equipment, but also human resources,” he explains.

The analyst emphasizes that Ukraine’s main problem is the lack of combat-ready military personnel, and not just a shortage of weapons. “Even with continued NATO assistance, the issue of mobilization and human resources will remain crucial,” Rezazade notes.

Despite skepticism, Trump’s words have a significant symbolic effect. For the first time, the current US president has actually announced the possibility of complete de-occupation, which could strengthen international support for Kyiv and create new pressure on Moscow.

“This is a kind of information attack on the Kremlin. Trump is trying to show that Russia is not invincible, but on the contrary, it looks weak and exhausted. For Kyiv, this is a diplomatic victory, because the rhetoric of the White House now coincides more with Ukrainian goals,” Rezazade concluded.

Thus, Trump’s statement opens a new stage in the international discourse: even if the practical implementation of the complete liberation of the territories remains in question, symbolic support at the highest level could become an important factor in Ukraine’s further strategy.
